2019 Annual Meeting Information

 

American Fisheries Society Alaska Chapter Annual Meeting 2019

We cordially encourage you to join us March 19 – 21, 2019 for the 45th annual meeting of the Alaska Chapter, American Fisheries Society. This year’s meeting will be held in Sitka, Alaska, with a theme of Headwaters to Oceans, connecting Alaska‘s fisheries.

 

Abstracts submissions are open until February 18. Submit yours today!

 

Registration: Attendees can register now at Eventbrite. Early bird registration will end on February 22, so book soon. Meeting attendees can also register (at the late rate) on site during the meeting.

Accommodations: Room Blocks have been set aside at Aspen Suits Hotel Sitka (907-747-3477), the Longliner Lodge & Suites (907-747-7910), and Westmark Sitka (907-747-6241). All are walking distance to the meeting venue and close to restaurants and entertainment. Room rates vary slightly but range from $100 to roughly $130 per night. Mention AFS to receive promotional pricing.

 

Flights: Alaska Airlines has generously offered a 7% discount code for attendees’ use! Enter Meeting Fare Code “ECMC272”. Travel must occur between March 18 and 25. When booking tickets, remember that the Welcome Social begins the night of March 18 and that the Banquet is the night of March 21.

 

Program: We will offer a high-quality and diverse set of symposia that reflect the meeting theme and address current and future issues in the conservation and management of fisheries resources. These sessions will address our mission to improve conservation and sustainability of fishery resources and aquatic ecosystems by advancing scientific research and promoting development of fisheries professionals. Continuing Education: We are offering two continuing education courses on Monday, March 18: a marine safety and survival course and an introduction to R programming.  Click here for detailed information on the courses. Socials: We will host a number of engaging socials that not only allow our diverse membership to network and interact but also showcase a variety of beautiful venues in Sitka. There will be a welcome social March 18, a Poster session, trade show, and mixed media presentations March 19, and a full catered banquet Thursday evening, March 21.

 

Field trips: Make the most of your trip to beautiful Sitka! Meeting-sponsored field trips will occur on Friday, March 22, and will include a scenic wildlife cruise and production hatchery tour to name a couple.
